RAJAR reveals new audience measurement contract to start January 2007

RAJAR announces details of RAJAR Contract 2007.

Three contractors are appointed: Ipsos MORI, RSMB Audience Research and TNS. A joint venture with BARB to establish a electronic measurement panel using the Arbitron PPM, which is to run for 2 years starting January 2007, is also announced.

January 2006
Data from the Arbitron PPM and Eurisko Media Monitor fieldwork tests undertaken in 2005 is submitted for evaluation.
December 2005
Review of the tender submissions begins.
November 2005
Tenders for the new contract are submitted to RAJAR.
October 2005
National fieldwork tests on the Arbitron PPM and Eurisko Media Monitor are completed.
July 2005
RAJAR Board agrees recommendations for the new contract specification, due to start in 2007, and issues an Invitation to Tender.

National fieldwork tests on the Eurisko Media Monitor commence.

Laboratory tests on the Eurisko Media Monitor and IPSOS-RSL audiometer commence.

National fieldwork tests with a rolling sweep begin on Arbitron PPM.
May 2005
National fieldwork tests with a fixed panel begin on the Arbitron PMM.

RAJAR commits a further £500,000 to fund the next stage of audiometer testing and analysis on the Arbitron PPM and the Eurisko Media Monitor.

National fieldwork tests, monitoring compliance as well as the level and nature of the data recorded are announced.

February 2005
RAJAR announces the results of its pioneering Audiometer Validation Test, which took place in November 2004. Two of the three audiometers which took part are selected for further fieldwork tests - the Arbitron Portable People Meter (PPM) and the Eurisko Media Monitor.

RAJAR announces the results of its industry-wide consultation on the issues facing radio audience measurement – The Future Requirements of Radio Audience Measurement.
November 2004
RAJAR finally receives new versions of all meters for immediate testing. These include devices from Arbitron and Radiocontrol, as well as a prototype pager metering device from Eurisko.
September 2004
Having confirmed delivery dates from meter manufacturers, RAJAR publishes “Roadmap to Change” setting out anticipated timetable of events leading to award of new contract, including testing of next-generation devices.
July/August 2003
Both manufacturers agree to provide improved versions to RAJAR for further testing.
June 2003
RAJAR finishes tests on schedule - decides to put meters on hold pending discussions with manufacturers.
April 2002
RAJAR begins tests on Radiocontrol.
January 2002
RAJAR secures agreement to begin tests of Arbitron. Agreement to test Radiocontrol also secured following visit to Switzerland. Test timetable published.
June 2001
RAJAR commissions tests with both Radiocontrol and Arbitron.
April 2001
RAJAR holds "Look to the future" conference, seeking subscriber reaction to proposed tests.

RAJAR visits Radiocontrol in Switzerland and discusses outline tests.
October 2000
RAJAR board instructs RAJAR to produce programme for audiometer investigations.
March 1993
RAJAR does same with Arbitron and its ‘pager’ technology.

Continuous contact with both suppliers, including co-operation in an Arbitron test in Manchester in October ‘98.

December 1992
RAJAR approaches Radiocontrol and asks to be kept informed of developments in its ‘wristwatch’ metering technology.
